As you will all know, James Foley, an American journalist captured by jihadists in 2012, was barbarously beheaded on a demonic video by a masked British jihadist. The Catholic Herald informs us that he was Catholic, and he had not lost his faith. After a previous kidnapping in 2011 in Libya, he wrote:
I kept telling (my colleague) Clare my mom had a strong faith. I prayed she’d know I was OK. I prayed I could communicate through some cosmic reach of the universe to her. I began to pray the rosary. It was what my mother and grandmother would have prayed. I said 10 Hail Marys between each Our Father. It took a long time, almost an hour to count 100 Hail Marys off on my knuckles. And it helped to keep my mind focused. Clare and I prayed together out loud. It felt energising to speak our weaknesses and hopes together, as if in a conversation with God, rather than silently and alone.
The video is something we should not watch; it is enough to know it exists. However there are many stills from the video showing him kneeling before his cowardly-masked murderer, calm and with head held high. It is not too much to believe, surely, that he was again praying the rosary on mental beads. If so, we can be sure Mary was advocate for him at the hour of his death, and can justifiably hope that soon he will be before the throne of the true God, washed clean in the blood of the Lamb.
On that day, may he pray for us. Until then, we should (rosary in hand) pray for him: requiescat in pace.

And may Satan’s laughter soon be silenced.
He is another casualty in a war that has been going on for sixteen hundred years. Sadly there are many more every day. We must pray and work for peace, but not be blind to the realities

Father, I’m still reeling from your previous post today regarding the silence over all the persecuted Christians–all the while thinking about James and of yesterday’s prior execution—such that I’d got to work on my post for tomorrow based on you and your post—directing those reading my blog over to you. I just don’t think we as Christians, and as human beings can ignore these atrocities any longer—
Blessings to you Father—Julie

The word martyr seems a bit of an exaggeration. There is nothing to indicate that the poor man died for his Faith,

Well, if you read the blog post you will have seen that I suggest that Mr Foley was a practising Catholic, and that the manner of his meeting his murder implied a resolution that could reasonably be born of faith. And to be quite frank, if Archbishop Romero can be considered a martyr, whose death was as much about politics as anything else, then why not Mr Foley’s?

It would seem as if this event was staged

Not quite. The claim on your video link is that the video did not show the actual beheading, signalled by a blip in the footage. The US government has confirmed that the event of the beheading took place.
Of course the video was staged – most propaganda is. Was Mr Foley not actually killed? No one has claimed that. I guess the only final proof will be to have his remains.

I was in two minds about the veracity of the beheading (as I am about anything I hear on the MSM), but now that I am informed that the US government itself says it has taken place I’m totally convinced that it hasn’t. Also, as an after thought, it makes no sense that ISIS would fake the beheading with a stage prop knife and then kill him off camera – why risk being caught out? Remember, these are the same folks who, instead of using flower pots to decorate their neighborhood, use the heads of their enemies.

So then, why would they bother with a fake beheading?

Ah! Indeed, why bother? Why did they bother with the SS Lusitania? The USS Liberty? Saddam’s WMDs, Assad’s gas? The Gulf of Tonkin incident? 9/11? Yup, why bother? You sure you want to go down that road?
