Time for some cheer, via Dottech.org
Not just because I have a friend who works for them, do I love Google. Google Maps has been a revelation (though Bing Maps has more recent satellite photos – hurry up Google) and changed the way many of us navigate when walking or driving (or even using public transport). When Google introduced Street View, meaning we could see exactly what a street on the map looked like as if we were there, things got even better.
But Street View is moving off-road. You can now explore inside the world’s largest passenger airliner, an Airbus A380, belonging to Emirates airlines. The trickiest part was working out how to get to the top deck (Business & First Classes) – the simple way is to click on the picture of the Business Class bar in the row of pictures at the bottom which will appear once inside on the bottom deck, and then you will be on the upper deck.
First Class has showers! Indeed, we get a partial glimpse of our photographer there, because there is nowhere to hide in a small room with mirrors!

My wife and I used Google Maps to plan a 70 mile journey to a friend’s ordination; instead of arriving 40 minutes early, we got there 10 minutes early but 25 miles away! We’ve just bought the latest OS map book, so that we never have to look at Google maps ever again! (All the locals assured us that Google maps has had their Catholic Church confused with the local Anglican one for years…)

Sorry to hear that, Eamonn, though since you were on the way to an ordination I suspect it was the Devil queering your pitch, or maybe the Anglicans. Google Maps is yet to let me down, and now that I can use it in lieu of satnav in a car, I love it even more.

could you see the slaves in the dubai airport? Cause those muhammedan heathen built their money laundering terrorist hole in the desert with slaves brought there with lies, their passports taken away and with very little to no pay.

Well, it is one of the most stable and western-friendly parts of the Middle East, though I grant that this might not be saying much. Certainly on my one visit there some years back I felt very safe (post 9/11). I did notice that the blue-collar jobs seemed largely to be done by Indians. The other large emigré community I noticed were Lebanese, who seemed to be very wealthy and very western. Still, not much of a country for a Catholic.
